On The Ground At Salone Del Mobile

Over the course of the six day exhibition, an estimated 386,236 people visited Fiera Milano to get the down-low at Salone del Mobile 2019. This means, regardless of your design style, the Salone is the place to be.

Furniture that improves health and well being

The designs and styles of the season feature pieces that enrich one’s health and lifestyle. This means a concerted effort to bring in the outdoors, and more concrete efforts to go ergonomic.

Focus on sustainability and circular design

As shown with Rossana Orlandi’s designs in partnership with Nature Squared that saw the use of local ‘trash’ materials like scallop shells from restaurants and goose feathers from down bedding, there is now, more than ever, a greater focus on exploring new materials while renewing commitment to the sustainability of old ones. What’s in? Furniture that will last, and does not harm mother earth.

A nomadic lifestyle

In an increasing bid to appeal to the globe-trotting lifestyle, designers have taken to furnishings that can easily be packed and unpacked, so as to make for quick transporting.

Sensory experiences on the rise

Designs on the Salone floor have revealed a focus on the sense of touch. With that in mind, many designers have chosen to showcase furnishings that boast textures that homeowners can feel beneath their fingertips, thus adding to the overall experience of being in the present.

Colour is in!

The verdict is in: colour is in fashion! Big brand names like Vitra and BD Barcelona showcased collections rich in jewel tones, from colour-blocked accessories to larger pieces simply awash in the vibrant hues of yesteryear.
